San Francisco de Asis Church, NM

The San Francisco de Asis Mission Church, built between 1772 and 1816, is located on the plaza in Ranchos de Taos about four miles southwest of the town of Taos, New Mexico. It is also one of the most photographed and painted churches in the world; was the subject of four paintings by Georgia O’Keeffe, and also photographed by Ansel Adams and Paul Strand. Georgia O’Keeffe is quoted as saying it is, “one of the most beautiful buildings left in the United States by the early Spaniards.” The church was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1970. My family and I have been here multiple times to walk around this plaza area. There are great little stores and the people are friendly and helpful. ****You are allowed to photograph the outside of the church but no cameras are allowed inside.
