Having an autistic child can make holidays, like July 4th, difficult. Decisions like, should we go to a firework event are always questionable – having four children, one being autistic, you want to be fair to all of them.
Our youngest daughter was diagnosed with PDD-NOS in 2003 and has since been changed to Autism. Loud noises are not pleasant for her at all. Usually, if anything, we stay home or make sure that we are far enough to see the fireworks but they are not loud – she will still sit in the car to watch them. The loud firecrackers… make her cry.
This year, her dad and I will make popcorn and watch a movie of her choosing with tone of hugs.
Happy 4th everyone!
